Spider Man: Blue

Jeph Loeb / Tim Sale

Comics As Melodrama

Melodrama, in the literary world, is a dirty word. It is synonymous with camp, emotional manipulation and general cheese. However, in the right circumstance melodrama can be an effective tool in conveying an emotion set forth by a certain era. Such is the case with Spider Man: Blue. Though we understand the campy-ness of teen drama is more akin to the like of CW shows, it does capture the mood of the Silver Age in comic book history. The ending of this story is often referred to as it's ultimate death, as well. I am big fan of the creative team behind this book and could honestly read anything by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. I hope you all enjoy this as much as I did.
